Wow. Has it been that long already?

Today, 18th July 2018, marks the first birthday of Åben Living. We first announced ourselves this time last year and started our journey towards redefining what we thought the rental market could be.

We have been beating ourselves up about how much work there is still to do, and until we came to write this post, we didn’t realise how much we had already done.

So, let’s head on a journey through time and look back at what we’ve been up to these past 12 months…

Milestone 1

On 18th December 2017 we bought our very first property on St. Albans Road in Derby. At the time the house was a 2-bed property which was crying out for some Åben TLC.

We wasted no time in getting to work by ripping everything out, knocking out some walls and starting from scratch.

Milestone 2

We didn’t give ourselves much room to breathe, and on 12th January 2018 we completed the purchase of our second property, not far from St. Albans Road. This second property on Bedford Street was again in much need of renovation.

Milestone 3

When you are part way through renovating two properties, most people might think they have enough on their plates. But not us. So, on 6th March 2018 we completed on our third property. We went further afield this time, reaching out to the other side of the city centre of Derby on London Road.

Although further away, the property on London Road was almost a carbon copy of the one on St. Albans Road!

Milestone 4

Later in March, we finally finished the renovation of our first property on St. Albans Road. We felt immensely proud to have achieved the look and feel of a Scandinavian home, which was now ready for tenants to move in to.

Milestone 5

It didn’t take long for our first tenant to move in to St. Albans Road. So, a few weeks after on 8th April 2018, our first home was fully up and running with our first tenant. By July the home was fully rented!

When looking back over the last year, Adam Wale (Director) said:

“We had a desire and a passion to lift this company off the ground, and we knew where we wanted the company to be, but I don’t think we really thought that we could have achieved so much in the first year! It seems unbelievable now to think that only a year has passed by – and what a year it has been!

“We are so proud of what we have created in 1 year and are very excited about what the next year will bring.”
